 A Chinese New Year Resolution

The Spring Festival for the Chinese is what the Christmas for the west and Eid ul-Fitr for the Islamite. The first day of the New Year, by Lunar Calendar, always comes in each January or February. And this year, it's 18, February.
Originated some 2000 years ago, Spring Festival is regarded as the "most Chinese" holiday, marked by Nianyefan, the family dinner party, and Yasuiqian, the enveloped money of small amount for children as New Year gifts.
The flavor of traditional Chinese cuisine and joyfulness of setting off firecrackers remain fresh to me, together with the New Year Resolution. Both individuals and companies will set their goals at the very beginning of the year.

Of Knock-Offs and Maalesh

When you think of Chinese products, what are the first things that come to mind? A walking, talking, singing fanoos Ramadan, disposable toys, hot pink cars, fake Louis Vuitton bags?
Well, you're not alone. Most Egyptian consumers still associate Chinese products with tacky, low-quality, low-cost imitations that don't last. "Do youwant the original or El-Sini El-Madroub (the Chinese Knock-off)" is an expression still common in Cairo when shopping for everything from handbags to consumer electronics.
What most consumers don't realize, however, is that the reality of the "New China" is very different. Sure, the second-rate factories and cheap knock-offs still exist, but they are a relatively small sub-sector of an economy that is becoming increasingly quality-oriented and legitimate.

Most competitive Chinese CNC Mental cutting machine brands announced
Following an improvement in quality, a total of 21 Chinese domestic brands of CNC metal cutting machines appeared on the list of brands of the greatest market competitiveness in China in 2006, prepared by the Ministry of Commerce of PR China.
These brands are:
·DMTG by Dalian Machine Tool Group Corp;
·Zhongjie by Shenyang Machine Tool (Group) Co Ltd;
·JIER by Jier Machine-Tool Group Co Ltd;
·KJ by Jiaoda Kunji High-Tech Co Ltd;
China revises its list of machine tools that cannot be imported duty-free
The Ministry of Finance of PR China has recently announced a revised list of commodities – including machine tools and forging and foundry equipment – that cannot be imported to the country duty-free to support investment projects in the country.
According to the revised list, which will be effective starting from March 1, 2007, all non-CNC machine tools will be subjected to tariff when they are imported into China. Regarding CNC machine tools, a total of 23 categories of products are affected, including CNC laser cutting machines, CNC cutting machines, gantry-type machining centers, CNC EDM machines, and drilling/cutting machining centers.
