2008 Sichuan earthquake

The 2008 Sichuan earthquake or Great Sichuan Earthquake which measured at 8.0 Ms and 8.3 Mw according to PRC's China Seismological Bureau, and 7.9 Mw according to USGS, occurred at 14:28:01.42 CST (06:28:01.42 UTC) on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province of China. The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500 km away) and Shanghai (1,700 km away), where office buildings swayed with the tremor. The earthquake was also felt in nearby countries.

China International Building & Construction Trade Fair 2008

China stops refunding export tax on some vegetable oil products

China will stop refunding export taxes levied on some types of vegetable oil from June 13, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said in a statement on Tuesday. This move is part of the government's effort to control vegetable oil exports, ensure domestic supplies and stabilize prices. The MOF said the move had been approved by the State Council, China's Cabinet. Twenty vegetable oil products, including soybean oil, peanut oil, olive oil, palm oil, cotton seeds oil and corn oil, were covered in the measure.

China's Wenzhou, Vienna sign agreement of intent on technological co-op

The Chinese city of Wenzhou signed an agreement of intent with Vienna on technological cooperation Thursday and the two sides pledged joint efforts to build a science park in the Austrian capital. The signing ceremony was attended by Sepp Rieder, Vienna mayor's special representative in scientific and economic cooperation, and a delegation from Wenzhou, a booming export-driven city in eastern China's Zhejiang province.
